If you've asked three web designers for a quote, you've probably had three wildly different numbers. Here's what the UK market really charges in 2026, based on the published prices of 36 freelancers, agencies and pay-monthly providers.
The short answer
| Type of website | Typical UK price |
|---|---|
| 1-page website | £150 – £300 |
| 5-page small business website | £500 – £1,200 |
| Larger custom website | £1,500 – £6,000 |
| Small online shop | £1,000 – £4,000 |
| Pay-monthly website | £25 – £130 a month |
London agencies often start at £3,000–£10,000 + VAT.
What changes the price?
- Design: a template costs less than a design made for your brand.
- Copywriting: many cheap packages expect you to write every word.
- Features: bookings, quotes, shops and AI assistants add value – and cost.
- Support: who fixes it when something breaks?
- VAT: many agencies quote + VAT, which adds 20%.
Watch out for
- Contracts that lock you in – some pay-monthly deals run for 12–24 months.
- Domains registered in the designer's name – always make sure you own yours.
- "From" prices that double once you add the features you actually need.
